Deanna J. Prisco Named President of the Orange County Land Trust

Middletown, NY March 14, 2008

Deanna J. Prisco of the Town of Mount Hope has been named president of the Orange County Land Trust, replacing Dr. Douglas McBride of Washingtonville.

Mrs. Prisco, a retired teacher with the Highland Falls Central School District, has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Land Trust for eight years. She has served as vice president for the past three years and was chairperson of the Land Trust's Stewardship Committee.

At a recent board meeting, the Board of Directors also appointed Mary Yrizarry of Tuxedo vice president and Francis Wickham of Howells 2nd vice president. Bruce Lott of Walden will continue as Secretary and Herb Stein of Washingtonville will continue as the Land Trust Treasurer.

"I am happy to be part of such a great organization and honored to be named its president," said Prisco. "So much has been accomplished under the leadership of Doug McBride and I hope to expand on his successes. Since 1993, this organization has protected over 3,000 acres of land and we are set to close on an additional 1,000 aces this year. These lands will remain open space forever."

"When I was growing up in Fort Montgomery, there were few organized activities," she continued. "The outdoors was my playground. Today, we want people to be able to be connected to the land by ensuring that it is here for future generations to enjoy."

Prisco is a former board member of the Fort Montgomery Battle Site Association and is a session member of the Otisville/Mount Hope Presbyterian Church. She and her husband, Carmen, a retired teacher from O'Neill High School, have four children and six grandchildren.

The Orange County Land Trust is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect the fields, forests, wetlands, ridgelines and river corridors in and around Orange County through voluntary land conservation.
