Howard Protter and Stuart Turner Join Orange County Land Trust Board of Directors

Middletown, NY April 1, 2008

The Orange County Land Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of two leading Orange County professionals to its Board of Directors, Howard Protter, Esq., of the law firm Jacobowitz and Gubits, LLP in Walden, and Stuart Turner, FAICP, a planning consultant with Turner Miller Group in Tuxedo.

Mr. Protter is the Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer at Jacobowitz and Gubits. He has been the Village Attorney for Cornwall-on-Hudson since 1982 and the Tuxedo Town Counsel since 1996. His primary practice has been devoted to municipal law and litigation, including land use issues and environmental matters. He is Second Vice-Chair of the New York State Bar Association's Municipal Law Section's Executive Committee, a member of the Mass Disaster Committee, Chairman of the Municipal Law Committee of the Orange County Bar Association, a member of the American Bar Association's Government Operations and Liability Committee, a member of the American Water Works Association, and the AWWA Research Foundation. He is a graduate of the State University of New York and received his Juris Doctor degree from the New York Law School.

Mr. Protter serves as Trustee and General Counsel to the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, is a director of the Clare J. Hoyt Memorial Foundation, and is a member of the Cornwall Lions Club.

Stuart Turner is the President of Turner Miller Group, a land use and municipal planning consulting firm in Tuxedo. A Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners (FAICP), Mr. Turner is a licensed Professional Planner (PP) with many years experience in developing municipal master plans, including the integration of open space, environmental and recreational land use issues. In addition, he has many years experience in issues involving housing, community development, and waterfront planning, as well as redevelopment of urban and historic districts throughout the Hudson Valley and New York metropolitan area.

Mr. Turner holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and City Planning, and a Master of Arts in Political Science from Rutgers University. He has taught planning as Adjunct Professor at Columbia University, and was Assistant Professor of Planning at Long Island University and at Pratt Institute.

In addition, Mr. Turner has received the Distinguished Service Award by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). He served as Vice President of the American Society of Consulting Planners, is a member of the Board of Trustees and the Land Use and Transportation Committees of the Orange County Citizens Foundation, is a member of the Education Committee of the Orange County Planning Federation, and is a member of the American Planning Association as well as the New York Planning Federation. Environmental affiliations include the Hudson River Environmental Society, Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc.

The Orange County Land Trust is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve the fields, forests, wetland, ridgelines and river corridors through voluntary land conservation. To date, the land trust has protected over 3,000 acres of scenically important and biologically sensitive lands as well as working farmland.
