Program Sponsored by Hudson Baylor Recycling Corporation
Middletown, NY —
May 29, 2007
The Orange County Land Trust held an educational nature program for children participating in Middletown YMCA programs at Fancher Davidge Park on Saturday, May 19.
The program, which was sponsored by Hudson Baylor Corporation, a recycling company based in Newburgh, was led by well-known nature artist and environmentalist John Yrizarry of Tuxedo. Yrizarry led a group of about ten 9-12 year olds around the park, introducing them to the many species of birds found right here in the city of Middletown.
On that overcast morning, the children saw and heard starlings, robins, wrens, bluebirds and of course, the many ducks and geese that live and raise their young near the lake.
"This was an excellent program and a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about birding and nature right in their own backyard," said Pat Weiss, associate executive director of the Middletown YMCA.
The nature program was part of the land trust's 5th Annual Birdathon Fundraising Event, which also included a competitive bird identification event held with the Edward A. Mearns Bird Club. Other sponsors included
