Middletown, NY (OCLT): Take a chance on winning an original fabric collage and support a good cause!
Warwick collage artist Laura Breitman will raffle off one of her original works of art during her fall/winter studio show with all proceeds donated to the Orange County Land Trust. Studio show dates are Saturdays and Sundays, November 28-29, December 5-6 and December 12-13. The studio shows will be held at her 39 Mountainside Road studio in Warwick, from 11am – 4 pm, with a demonstration of her collage technique held each day at 1pm.
Laura’s collages have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad, including the Ohio Craft Museum in Cleveland, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art Alliance Gallery. Her work also appears as part of numerous corporate and museum collections, including the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC and Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award, and the Best in Fiber Award at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Exhibition. She conducts workshops in her Warwick studio in the photorealistic collage method.
Laura explains that through her art, she is “committed to expressing how light interacts with form and the task of fooling the eye.
“Thousands of pieces of fabric are often contained in each work,” she said. “Attention to detail is my way of capturing viewers, bringing them in closer so that details meld into shapes and color - which is often the case when we contemplate an object.”
Laura has also invited three of her artist friends, all of who work in fiber, to exhibit their work in her studio exhibition. "I have invited these artists because their work is closely related to what I do, in that all use fabric and/or paper and their work also fools the eye. It is my long term goal to make my future studio exhibitions a destination for people who collect works in fiber and enjoy the art of trompe l'oeil.”
The price of a raffle ticket is $25.00. The collage – a Hudson Valley scene with a retail value of $3,000- will be exhibited during her studio show dates. For more information, please call (845) 258-4796 or visit Laura’s website www.laurabreitman.com
