Public Meeting on Future Nature Preserve and Trails along Quassaick Creek

Middletown, NY (OCLT)

The Quassaick Creek Coalition will hold a public meeting on Thursday, April 30 in Newburgh to discuss the creation of a nature preserve and trails along the Quassaick Creek. The meeting will take place at the City of Newburgh Activity Center in Delano-Hitch Park, 401 Washington Street, beginning at 7:30 pm.

The proposed Quassaick Creek Estuary Preserve and Mill Trail is a shared vision of many organizations and individuals. Plans include a trail, interpretive center, and trailhead park that is accessible to all, as well as an estuary preserve for the protection of wildlife habitat. The public meeting will feature a presentation about ongoing coalition efforts to celebrate the natural beauty and biological diversity of the Snake Hill and Quassaick Creek landscapes.

Organizations that comprise the coalition include the City of Newburgh, Orange County Department of Planning, NYS DEC Estuary Project, Hudson River Valley Greenway, National Park Service Rivers & Trails, NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, Mid-Hudson Land Revitalization Partnership, Historical Society of Newburgh Bay & the Highlands, Orange County Sportsmen’s Federation, Residents of Surrounding Communities, Newburgh Neighbor’s Network, Riverkeeper, Inc., Scenic Hudson and the Orange County Land Trust. More information on the coalition and their plans for Quassaick Creek can be found on the coalition’s website at www.qcreek.org.
