Volunteer with the Orange County Land Trust's Stewardship Program!
Volunteers play a very important role in the stewardship of the Orange County Land Trust's public and private protected lands. Without our volunteers many of our successful projects, such as our public Preserves and Annual Monitoring Program, would not be possible. Currently, over 50 volunteers enjoy preserved land with our volunteer opportunities throughout Orange County!
Many skills and abilities are utilized in our stewardship programs. Volunteer opportunities may involve habitat management, hiking, land navigation, trail design, trail building, plant identification, wildlife observation and carpentry. Other volunteers assist with filing, mailings, grant research and conducting educational programs.

eBird Coordinator
OCLT is looking for a volunteer to help set up an account on the eBird website (www.ebird.org) to track birding information on our Preserve properties.
Specific tasks include:
- Addition of OCLT Preserves as Birding Hotspots on the eBird website
- Creation of a "how to" guide for volunteers collecting and entering observations
- Periodic entry of sighting information to Land Trust account
- Periodic monitoring of Preserve properties results on the website
Stewardship Outreach Research Coordinator:
OCLT is looking for a volunteer to research and collect contact information to expand our volunteer outreach database.
Research may include:
- Tax Parcel research for Preserve and Conservation Easement neighbors
- Town Conservation Advisory Council and Open Space Committee members
- Birding, Outing and Gardening Clubs
Historical Register Application Coordinator
OCLT is looking for a volunteer to coordinate and submit the New York State Historical Archeological Site Inventory Form for two Preserve properties.
Conservation Easement Monitors
OCLT is looking for volunteers to monitor properties in:
- Monroe and Tuxedo, 81-acres
- Chester, 30 acres
- Crawford, 147 acres
- Greenville, 116 acres
